Welcome to LULAC!


Thank you for your interest in joining LULAC IL Education Council 5238. Your support and collaboration will help continue LULAC's mission to empower the Latino community. 

2024-26 Council Highlights:


  • Increase Educator Career Pathways
    • Sofia Gonzalez joined our board as VP of K12 education to lead this vital endeavor for LULAC and in her role as Morton East High School Teacher -  LinkedIn
    • We participate in Advance Illinois’ Teacher Pipeline working group to address the teacher shortage crisis representing LULAC and Latino educator voices and needs.
    • Board member Rogelio Sanchez coaches teachers to implement a research-based curriculum for foundational reading. LinkedIn
    • Board member Delilah Crespo coaches and mentors teachers in classroom management and lesson planning. LinkedIn


  • Advocate for Higher Education Equity
    • Dr. Lizette Rivera joined our board as VP of Higher Education to lead and support initiatives for students to succeed in college and careers, including her role as Dominican University HSI DIrector - Linkedln


  • Promote Latino Digital Leadership
    • We continued our strategic partnership with Latin Digital Leaders Now (LatinX DLN) to engage Latinos in digital leadership so they can thrive in how we live, learn, work, and play. This organization is led and founded by Caroline Sanchez Crozier, founder of LULAC IL 5238. LinkedIn


  • Our Council is nationally highlighted as innovative in supporting education, community, and the workforce. Council Founder Caroline leads the National work as Founding Chair of the LULAC National Innovation & Technology Committee (LULAC NITC), appointed by LULAC National President Roman Palomares. All the members are Council 5238 members representing several states. Press Release


  • Strengthen Coalitions and Alliances
  • Participated in local school and community activities with multiple partners, including Argo Community HSD 217, Summit Community School District 104, Ridgewood HSD 234, Summit Illinois, Cook County Digital Equity Team, Village of Summit, and LatinX DLN, ASPIRA Charter Network.


  • Increase Civic Engagement in Our Communities
    • We continually recruit Latino/a professionals in education, tech, and other fields to join LULAC as council members to live the mission and pay it forward. In 2024, we had 28 dedicated members, primarily from Illinois but also recruited across the country, dedicated to our communities.
    • Board members participated in school and community activities with multiple partners, including partners listed above - attended by board members Rogelio Sanchez, Delilah Crespo, Raul Sanchez, Caroline Sanchez Crozier, Luis Narvaez (LinkedIn)


  • Raise Funds for Student Scholarships
    • Treasurer Raul Sanchez (LinkedIn) helped launch new partnerships to increase student scholarships.]
      • Project 214 — Founder and new board member Sofia Gonzalez will lead the new Council initiative, work with Raul Sanchez to integrate LULAC National scholarship opportunities, and raise local funds.
      • ARP Foundation — Founder Daniel Jacquez (LinkedIn) and new LULAC member Josiel Marrufo (LinkedIn) will work with Raul Sanchez to integrate ARP funds and scholarships with the LULAC National scholarship program and help raise local funds.
